Alan John Booth

Alan J. Booth is an artist, illustrator, and storyteller from Derbyshire, England, with a creative life spanning more than six decades. A former engineer with Rolls-Royce and a partner in Rother Valley Engineering, Alan brings the precision and craftsmanship from his engineering days to his artwork and writing.

A lifelong lover of nature, the countryside, and classic adventure tales, Alan combines these passions in The Blue John Chronicles, his richly illustrated story set among the hills, caves, and farmlands of the Peak District. His experience as a painter—especially in watercolour, landscapes, and animal studies—gives his books a distinctive visual style full of atmosphere, character, and heart.

Alan has taught drawing and painting to beginners and intermediates, both online and in person. His work continues to appear in private collections, exhibitions, and specialist print editions.

Now in his eighties, Alan writes with a sense of legacy, creating stories for his children, grandchildren, and future generations. The Blue John Chronicles represents the culmination of a lifetime of imagination, craftsmanship, and love of storytelling.

He lives in South Yorkshire with his wife, Janice, and continues to paint, write, and explore new creative projects
